When you purchase an outdoor ceiling fan, you may have been happy with the blades at that time. As time goes on, our tastes change and some things made need to be upgraded and updated to go along with these changes you are making. You may want to change the blades on your outdoor ceiling fan in order to get a more modern look.

The great thing about outdoor ceiling fans is that it is very easy to change out the blades. All you need is a screwdriver and you can get started. If you have a black ceiling fan, you may want to replace the black blades with another color or style that is more cheery.

Ceiling fan blades come in a wide variety of styles and materials. You may want to stick with plastic blades as they do not rust the way that metal blades can when the weather is inclement. Plastic also repels water where wood can actually soak up the water and can get rotted or damaged.

If you get treated wood, this may not be a problem in the short term, but you will have to make sure you stick with the maintenance and keep the wood treated. If you do not, then you will have the problems noted above. Wood looks great, but it can be a high maintenance material.

This is why plastic blades are so popular with those who use outdoor ceiling fans. You can find plastic blades in a wide variety of styles and colors. If you love animal print, then you can get leopard print blades. When you change your blades from a dark color, you may want to switch them out for a bright yellow or blue.

You can even get plastic blades that have a wood grain look so that you can still have the wood blades you want with the low maintenance of plastic blades. Another way you can update your blades is to purchase vinyl clings or decals that can be placed on the blades to give them a fresh look.

When replacing the blades, make sure you turn off the electricity to the fan itself on the breaker. You do not want to accidentally put your screwdriver into an area that may electrocute you. Remove the screws that are holding the blade mounts in. Set them to the side until you have all of the blades taken off. Remove the bracket from the old blades and put them on the new blades. Replace the blades onto the motor and turn the electricity back on.

You have just changed out the blades and now have a whole new look for you deck or patio. It is not hard to change out the outdoor ceiling fan blades and it does not take a good deal of time nor cost a lot of money to do. You can have a new look as often as you like. Some may even want to have one color for each season!
